The robots of CES 2023

Robohub

Robots were on the main expo floor at CES this year, and these weren't just cool robots for marketing purposes. I've been tracking robots at CES for more than 10 years, watching the transition from robot toys to real robots. Increasing prominence has been given to self-driving cars, LiDARs and eVTOL drones, but, in my mind it was really the inclusion of John Deere and agricultural robots last year that confirmed that CES was incorporating more industry, more real machines, not just gadgets. In fact, according to the organizing association CTA or the Consumer Technology Association, these days CES no longer stands for the Consumer Electronics Show. CES now just stands for CES, one of the world's largest technology expos.

CES 2023: The best health and well-being gadgets you're likely going to use in the future

#artificialintelligence

The CES tech show in Las Vegas has been packed with health gadgets this year as technology continues to make huge advancements when it comes to helping consumers gain a better understanding of their general well-being. This device provides an immediate snapshot of the body's balance by monitoring and detecting a large variety of biomarkers found in urine. The device is just 90 mm in diameter and sits inside most toilet bowls. Results are then delivered to a smartphone app, providing analysis and recommendations based on the data. The company says it's planning two different consumer products; one targeted towards hospitals and other healthcare settings, the other for consumers. "Urine actually has over 3,000 metabolites.

The Madness of CES 2023 in Photos

WIRED

The chaotic, glitzy showcase for the consumer technology industry known as CES took place this first week of January. While most humans on the planet were still nursing their New Year's hangovers, the tech manufacturers, retailers, distributors, media, and regular old tourists descended on Las Vegas, Nevada, for five days. In the convention center expos and hotel ballrooms, they interacted with robotic assistants, strapped on some virtual reality headsets, and took leisurely spins around the parking lot in self-driving cars. Our photographer Roger Kisby captured some of the magic as he roamed the halls of CES 2023. Here are some highlights from tech's biggest week.

CES 2023: AI evolution's in a 'really important moment,' says Sony's AI ethics expert

#artificialintelligence

The viral success of OpenAI's ChatGPT has triggered discussions everywhere these days from the classroom to the boardroom. This amounts to a crucial moment for AI, Alice Xiang, Head of Sony Group's (SONY) AI Ethics Office and AI Lead Research Scientist, told Yahoo Finance Live (video above). "We're really seeing an inflection point with AI ethics, where it's going from being just something that companies are doing on their own… [and now] we're seeing policymakers really dive into this space." Xiang added: "This raises a lot of really interesting questions around how we ensure that we have governance processes in place to make sure AI that's built is compliant with relevant laws." As consumers encounter AI more frequently, and with excitement and fear, regulators are taking notice.

Here's what hot at CES 2023 and what it means for the job market - WorkingNation

In this episode of Work in Progress, Gary Shapiro, president & CEO of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), joins me to talk about the world's biggest tech event – the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023 – underway this week in Las Vegas. More than 100-thousand people are expected at CES to get a look at what's ahead for us in 2023 and beyond from more than 1,000 exhibitors. "What we're going to see is the growth of so many categories such as digital health and EV (electric vehicles) and all the different transportation alternatives. It's one of the largest car shows in the world, along with the whole ecosystem and new technologies that are coming, which the car companies are relying on," says Shapiro. He says there will be a lot of focus on artificial intelligence, virtual reality, cybersecurity, food security, agriculture, sustainability, and entertainment.

Here's the best AI-powered tech we've spotted at CES 2023

#artificialintelligence

So, without further ado, here are some of the most interesting AI-based technologies from CES 2023. Rest assured that these are just a few of the many choices available and shouldn't be seen as all of them. Also, the list is in no particular order. The Machine Vision Bedsore Management Mat, called Bedsore-M, is a bedsore management tool that uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to track patients' laying positions and quantify them correctly to prevent bedsores. According to its developers, it was "developed to provide bedsore-related diseases treatment through'machine-learned bedsore analyses' and customized anti-aging skin and sleeping posture solution." Based on its own machine-learned "Bedsore-M #1 algorithm," Bedsore-M analyzes lying posture and position data using a machine vision camera and piezoelectric sensors.

SEVENPOINTONE Awarded Innovation Honoree at CES 2023 - Startup World Tech

On November 16 2022, SEVENPOINTONE announced that it would receive the title of Innovation Awards Honoree at CES 2023. The award was presented to them for "AlzWIN", an AI-powered service for the early detection of dementia and other cognitive impairments, that is simple to apply and quick to diagnose. CES is the one of the largest tech events in the world, where innovators come together to showcase their services, many of which have traveled from across the world to attend. In Las Vegas USA, they can meet with prospective business partners, exchange ideas and enjoy the presentations. AlzWIN recognizes the fluency of the users speech, as well as the semantic memory within two minutes of the analysis.

The best of CES 2023

Engadget

After canceling our CES plans in 2022 (and not even having the option of attending in person in 2021), the Engadget team sent a dozen staffers to CES 2023 this week, including reporters, editors and videographers. It's too soon to say how many stories and videos we've published -- in fact, we have more good stuff coming -- but suffice to say, it was a lot. Though our team swears the show still wasn't as busy as pre-pandemic years, they were kept busy enough that it felt like a true return to form, not just for us, but for the tech industry at large. One thing that never stopped was Engadget's annual Best of CES Awards program, although this year marks the first time in three years we've been able to base our judgments off of a full slate of in-person hands-on experiences. All told, we're handing out a dozen awards this year, including the most prestigious: Best of the Best.

Well CES is officially underway. The floor is open and hordes of PR reps, journalists and eager entrepreneurs are coursing through the arteries of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Of course even before the LVCC opened its doors today there's been plenty of news coming out of CES 2023. Sony held its big press conference Wednesday night, covering everything from high-end cinema cameras and nano satellites, to video game movies and accessible controllers. The company's Project Leonardo controller will offer a variety of customizable buttons and other hardware in a kit built for those with limited motor ability.
